1. Identify and generate equivalent forms of fractions and decimals.

Overview:
In this Kidspiration Activity the students will be observing the given fractions and matching the equal fractions. They will also be asked to add another equivalent fraction to the web.

Activity Instructions:
This activity was designed to be used after several lessons have already been taught to introduce fractions and equivalent fractions. I use it as a math center for my students to reinforce their skills. I introduce the activity in a whole group setting using our classrooms' combination TV/Monitor. We review the concept of equivalent fractions. We also review using some kind of physical manipulative to check your work.

After the reviewing is complete, the students look at the activity. They are told that there should be five sets of equivalent fractions when they are done. This includes two fractions that are already written into the program, and one that they have to insert into the blank clouds.

There is an example on the program activity already, but it may be helpful to show an example of connecting the clouds with the link button.

When the students have completed their connections they can print it out and check their work with a physical manipulative of some kind. Once they have checked their work it can be turned in, and it could be used as a grade.

Another variation of this activity would be to have the students toggle between the picture and writing view, and write out the fraction in word form. This could be a part of the assignment, or it could be used as extra credit.
