more information. Overview: Students will explore story elements
by reading and investigating several versions of Goldilocks and
the Three Bears.
Standards: Reading Applications: Literary Text
1.Students will compare and contrast different versions of the
same story.
2. Students will describe characters and setting.
3. Students will use supporting details to identify
and describe main ideas, characters and setting.
Preparation:
· Gather several versions of Goldilocks and The Three Bears including
Abuela and The Three Bears from the Scholastic Reading Series
Sourcebook and on the Wiggleworks CD.
· Create a large outline of Goldilocks on chart paper.
· Load the story investigation activities on your computers.
Activity/Steps:
Day 1:
1. Read the original version of Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
2. Use the method of “Interactive Writing” to fill
in the outline of Goldilocks (on the chart paper) with information
about her character in the story.
3. Read the story Abuela and The Three Bears using the interactive
version on the Wiggleworks CD Rom. (I put this on the TV moniter
so the whole class can see and hear at the same time. Students
take turns controlling the mouse as we work our way through the
story.)
4. Have students use the Kidspirations character web template (Activity
Number 1) to illustrate information about one character
from the story using
the Sourcebook text for details.
Day 2:
| 1. Read the book Somebody and The Three Blairs. |

2. Discuss story elements and details.
3. Have the students use the Kidspirations comparing stories
template (Activity Number 2) to compare this story to the original
version.
4. Have the students create a new ending for one of the two stories.
Day 4:
1. Have the students choose one of the following stories to
read.
2. Use it to complete the Kidspiration story element activity
(Activity Number 3.)
