Learning has some wonderful places
for
you to explore. Try these!
Animal Printouts - Hundreds of animal printouts with labels and information about each.
Biomes-Habitats - The Earth has many different environments, varying in temperature, moisture, light, and many other factors. Each of these habitats has distinct life forms living in it. A community of plants and animals in a region and a climate is called a biome. Read about the many different environments here.
Rainforest Animals - Different animals live in different strata of the rainforest. For example, birds live in the canopy (upper leaves of the trees) and in the emergents (the tops of the tallest trees). Large animals (like jaguars) generally live on the forest floor, but others (like howler monkeys and sloths) are arboreal (living in trees). Insects are found almost everywhere.
All About Mammals - Mammals are animals that have hair, are warm-blooded, and nourish their young with milk. You'll enjoy reading about them here!
Classification of Mammals - There are about 5,000 species of living mammals. They are divided into three subclasses and about 26 orders. Lots of great information to be found here.
Around the Web - Other Animal Sites
ASPCA's Animaland - visit the ASPCA's special kids section for the lowdown on the animal kingdom. You can ask Azula anything about animals, play some games, or read about wild careers too!
Welcome to the World of Animals - Jerrie S. Cheek from the ETTC at Kennesaw State University has done a marvelous job of creating a hotlist of websites with information on animals. You can spend hours going through these sites!
"Living Things" - this unit from the Franklin Institute Science Museum is made up of four sections; Individuals, Families, Neighborhoods, and The Circle of Life. Scattered throughout "Living Things," you'll find hands-on activities for kids, along with some great tips for teachers.
