• Open the spreadsheet to be seen by the entire class, or have individual students open it at their own computers.
• Explain to the students that each square in the map can be named with coordinates - a letter and a number where the column and row cross.
• There are eleven sites of interest on the map. For each item on the map, the students are to determine the coordinates where it is located, and fill in their answers in a table provided. The first is done for them.
• They can check their answers by clicking on the symbol on the map and looking in the name box in the top left corner of the Excel window.
• This is a good way to introduce and practice coordinates.
