Overview: As part of a government unit, discuss the purposes of different levels of government and the words associated with each level. Students will create a graphic organizer with words associated with each level.

Standards:

· Grade 3: Explain the major functions of local government.
Explain the structure of local government and identify local leaders.

· Grade 4: Explain major responsibilities of each of the three branches of government to Ohio.

· Grade 5: Explain major responsibilities of each of the three branches of the U.S. government.

Recommended Prior Activities:

· Students will have read and discussed Chapter 12 of our Ohio social studies book.

· Students will have made flip books with illustrations and descriptions for each level. (local, state, national)
