Overview: Students will explore story elements by reading and investigating several versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Standards: Reading Applications: Literary Text
1.Students will compare and contrast different versions of the same story.
2. Students will describe characters and setting.
3. Students will use supporting details to identify
and describe main ideas, characters and setting.

Preparation:
· Gather several versions of Goldilocks and The Three Bears including Abuela and The Three Bears from the Scholastic Reading Series Sourcebook and on the Wiggleworks CD.
· Create a large outline of Goldilocks on chart paper.
· Load the story investigation activities on your computers.

Activity/Steps:

Day 1:
1. Read the original version of Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
2. Use the method of “Interactive Writing” to fill in the outline of Goldilocks (on the chart paper) with information about her character in the story.
3. Read the story Abuela and The Three Bears using the interactive version on the Wiggleworks CD Rom. (I put this on the TV moniter so the whole class can see and hear at the same time. Students take turns controlling the mouse as we work our way through the story.)
4. Have students use the Kidspirations character web template (Activity Number 1) to illustrate information about one character from the story using the Sourcebook text for details.

Day 2:

1. Read the book Somebody and The Three Blairs.

2. Discuss story elements and details.
3. Have the students use the Kidspirations comparing stories template (Activity Number 2) to compare this story to the original version.
4. Have the students create a new ending for one of the two stories.

Day 4:

1. Have the students choose one of the following stories to read.

2. Use it to complete the Kidspiration story element activity (Activity Number 3.)
