Overview: The students will sort solid figures by the number of faces.

Preparation:

• Gather materials: cone, sphere, rectangular prism, cylinder, and pyramid.
• Load the solid figure sort template on your complete.

Activity:

• Give partners a set of solid figures to explore the number of faces on each.
• Have the students sort the figures according to the number of faces.
• Have students sort figures according to whether the figures can roll, slide, or can be stacked.
• Discuss the relationship between the number of faces and whether it can roll, slide, or can be stacked.
• Explain the solid figure sort activity to the students.
• Each student will complete the activity by sorting the solid figure pictures into the appropriate boxes.
• Print each student’s work.

Assessment: Student must correctly match the 4 figures to the correct number of faces.
