Overview: Upon completion of reading Horrible Harry and the Green Slime book or any other Horrible Harry book, students will be able to use the Kidspiration template to complete a character analysis for one of the main characters in the book.

Standards: English Language Arts, Grade Three, Reading Process: Comprehension, #6 Create and use graphic organizers, such as Venn diagrams and webs, to demonstrate comprehension.

Preparation:

• Gather enough copies of the book, one for each student.
• Create a character analysis template using the corresponding Kidspiration Activity. Load this template on your computers.

Procedure:

• Read and discuss Horrible Harry and the Green Slime. This may take several class sessions.
• As students work their way through the book, the teacher assists students in recording personality attributes to the main characters in the story. These may be recorded on a chart in an ongoing fashion.
• As a culminating activity students will complete the Kidspiration Character Analysis template. For each character trait given, students will also need to give proof or examples from the story.
• Print each student’s work.

Assessment: Student will be able to give at least three character traits with proof or an example for each.
