Welcome to AP Biology and Principles of Biomedical Sciences!

My name is Mrs. Ann Sowd. I currently teach AP Biology and Principles of Biomedical Sciences at Hoover High School. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Dayton in 1974. I have worked in clinical laboratories for 12 years. I received a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Kent State University in 1995. I have completed 34 graduate credit hours of continuing education since receiving my masters degree.

I have been married to Michael, an accountant who works for Central Allied, Inc, for 30 years and we have three children who all are Hoover graduates. Sarah is a graduate of Duquesne University with a degree in Health Sciences.  She is currently finishing her masters in Occupational Therapy (finished in January...no more tuition payments!!!).  Greg received his Biochemistry degree from Virginia Tech and is a graduate student at Vanderbilt University majoring in Molecular Biology.  He recently married Ashley Glumac Sowd, an epidemiologist with the state of Tennessee.  Matt has his Biomedical Engineering degree from Case Western Reserve University and his masters in Bioengineering from Georgia Tech. He is currently working on a masters in Electrical Engineering.  He is married to Dayna Dorsey Sowd, a property manager, and is employed by SAIC outside the DC area.  I also have a golden retriever named Molly, the most spoiled dog on earth.

My husband and I love to ride our bicycles.  We love the towpath, but also ride other bike paths throughout the country.  We also love to travel.  Last year we visited our niece and her family who live in Europe and toured Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, and Austria.   We also love the beach.  Our son, Gregory, was married in the Outer Banks this past summer, so we spent two weeks there, but our favorite Spring Break location is Kiawah Island.  Our latest obsession is fitness.  We both train at a local fitness center and I love to cook healthy meals.  Significant weight loss was a welcome result!  I also love home decorating.  I sew custom window treatments (now only for family!) and my house is in a constant state of redecoration...much to the chagrin of my very patient husband.  And, when I have nothing else to do, I love to read.

Current information about my classes will be posted and updated on this page.
