Here is some background material on Team 8A's ISGI
After graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1972, Mrs. Nielsen spent several years teaching in elementary and middle schools in Illinois and Florida. In 1979 she retired from teaching in order to raise a family. For the next 10 years she was busy with her 4 children, Meg, Mary, Andrew, and K.C. In 1990 Mrs Nielsen returned to teaching in the parochial schools of Stark County.
She became a college student again in 1995 and received a post bachalaureate degree in Learning Disabilities from Akron University in 1997. Since 1996, she has been working as an SLD tutor. In 2000, she became an ISGI for North Canton City Schools. In 2003 Mrs. Nielsen attended 150 hours of training in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading to the dyslexic.
In her free time Mrs. Nielsen enjoys her family, singing old standards, reading, writing, bike riding, and walking.
