Hello! Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year and to Team Seven Black!  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Burwell. This year will begin my seventeenth as a teacher and my eleventh at North Canton Middle School. I will be teaching both regular and enriched Math on our team. I graduated with honors from Kent State University in 1993 with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Elementary Education. I have taught in three other communities before coming to North Canton: Newton Falls, Cincinnati, and Massillon. I have taught grades six through eight in the subject areas of Math, Science, and Reading. I also co-advise Student Leadership Council with Mrs. Peterson, our Reading teacher.  I encourage you to become involved in the many opportunities in sports, academics, leadership and the arts that North Canton Middle School offers.  It's the perfect way to meet new friends and become part of the NCMS community!

My family and I currently make our home in Perry Township. My husband Doug teaches Math at Hoover High School and is a varsity assistant football coach and track coach. We have two children; an eleven year old son named Nicholas and an eight year old daughter, Lauren.  We also have a lively yellow lab named Savannah.

There are many opportunities for you to be successful in math this year.  I am a big proponent of organization!  The first key to organization is to make sure you have all of your supplies.  In math this year, you will need to have : an OGT calculator, SHARPENED PENCILS, a metric/standard ruler, and a 1.5 inch three ring binder with 3 insertable dividers.  The second key to success is keeping your math binder organized.  At the front of the binder, you'll keep your AGENDA.  At the start of each new unit, an agenda will be distributed.  It has all of the homework, projects, and quiz dates listed and all of the skills for that unit. The agenda can be useful to parents, too!  I keep a copy of our current agenda on the FILES page of my website.  The binder is a great tool for parents.  The notes section includes a step-by-step explanation of the new skill with definitions, examples and practice problems.

Finally, by doing your homework and ACTIVELY participating in class, you will ensure a great year in seventh grade Math!  Remember, never be afraid to ASK QUESTIONS!  That is how you learn!

Finally, take advantage of our Team Seven Black Viking Bonus Bucks program!  Earn those bucks and earn rewards!

Thanks for browsing my web page! I am looking forward to a great year!
