CLASSIFIED PERSONEL
SPECIAL LEAVE POLICY

It is agreed that special leave days shall not be used for rest, recreation, nor seeking or engaging in gainful employment, nor travel associated with these activities. No more than two (2) employees, or ten percent 10% of the building, transportation or maintenance staff, whichever is greater, shall be absent on special leave on the same day. Special circumstances may be considered by the Superintendent for waiving the restriction on the number of staff members who may be absent on the same day.

No later than forty-eight (48) hours prior to taking special leave, the member shall announce his intent to the building principal or administrator on the form provided for special leave. In the event of an emergency, the 48-hour requirement shall be waived. Notice of intended absences shall be given to the appropriate administrator as early as possible.

1. Each member of the bargaining unit shall be entitled to three (3) days of special leave each school year, with pay, to conduct personal business, which cannot be attended to except during the employee’s regular workday.
2. A maximum of three (3) days special leave per school year may be granted to employees. Special leave may be used on either one-half (1/2), or full day basis.
3. The misuse of special leave by an employee shall be grounds for disciplinary action.
4. A member who requests Special Leave the day prior to, or the day after, in-service or staff meeting, holiday, vacation day, or the day of a professional development workshop or meeting, must make the request in writing with reasons to the Superintendent. Such requests shall be granted provided the reasons are for good cause.
