As
Technology Support Specialist for the North Canton City School District elementary
schools, it is my job to provide teachers with technical assistance in using hardware,
software and new equipment and communicate with them to coordinate classroom curriculum
with technology. I am also responsible for maintaining Web Pages for each building
and searching the Internet for sites of value to our staff and students that can
be integrated into daily classroom curriculum.
My
husband Tom is a Ceramic Engineer. We have two grown children, David and Tiffany, who are both NCCS alumni. Our totally spoiled Yellow Lab, Izzy,
allows Tom & I to share her residence in Greentown.
Franklin
Institute Science Museum OME Program
During
the 1999-2000 school year I was honored to be selected as a Fellow by the
Franklin Institute of Science in Philadelphia, Pa. Clocks...Teaching
Time, focused on The Franklin Institute's collection of timepieces, was the
effort of the 1999-2000 "Wired@School" educators.
During
the school year 2000-2001 I served as Online Museum Educator. Two chapters of
Online Museum Educatorsone working in North America with artifacts from
The Franklin Institute Science Museum and one working in the United Kingdom with
the Science Museum, London's collections-worked together for 10 months. The outcome
of the project is a collection of teacher-created resources that support museum
artifacts known as "Pieces of Science."
I
was delighted to be joined by Mrs.
Ann Sowd of Hoover High School in the 2001-2002 Online Museum
Educators Project. Follow
this link to read more about The
Online Museum Educators Program. My contribution to the
program was "Grandbuddies",
an intergenerational project pairing first grade students with
residents of a local retirement community.
Online
Collaborative Projects
I
have collaborated with Susan
Silverman from the Comsewogue
School District in New York State on several online projects:
Whale
Tales 2004 Students
had a whale of a time
participating in this cross-curricular collaborative project! Linda Brandon,
from the
Lakeland Central School District in
Shrub Oak, New York joined us in coordinating this project.
Kidspired
Frosty Readers 2004, a
wintertime collaborative online project featuring "Kidspiration" software
and winter literature.
Kidspired
Bunnies 2003, the 3rd third collaborative Internet
project that combines Kidspiration software and literature.
Kidspired
Frosty Tales 2003, a collaborative online project featuring "Kidspiration" software
and winter literature. A sequel to "Kidspired Tales".
Kidspired
Tales 2002 - A fall K-2 project.
The objective of this project is to help teachers develop new

shared activities designed with Kidspiration software.
"Cinderella
Around the World" Participating classes read multi-cultural
versions of Cinderella. After reading the story students engaged
in language arts, social studies, math or science activities
that were showcased on a web site.
"Frosty
Readers 2001" and "Frosty
Readers 2002" attracted classrooms from across the
United States, Canada and South Africa.
"Spring
Into Life" The topic of study for this project was
on animals and/or plants that become active in the springtime.
What a perfect time to learn about migration and hibernation,
not to mention protective coloration! Students engaged in multi-disciplinary
activities with a science emphasis

"To
laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection
of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal
of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the
world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social
condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This
is to have succeeded."
