We are experiencing severe cold and are missing school for our third day. We missed three because of ice in December. Most years we never see snow or ice! this has been an experience. Reading The Mitten fit right in. We have been reading all of Jan Brett's books during January. When we return to school we are going to write to her to tell her all the things we like about her books and her art work.

As we discussed The Mitten, we discussed how the animals came to the mitten and what made the others agree to let him in. As a result of our Kidspiration project we will write stories about the animals in the story. This is a great way for First Graders to begin to see details in a story.
