Anansi and the Moss-Covered Rock

We read the story of Anansi and the Moss-Covered Rock retold by Eric A. Kimmel as a read aloud. Afterward we brainstormed character traits of Anansi the Spider and Little Bush Deer. We compared the traits of both animals using a Venn Diagram. As an interactive writing, we continued the story. Below is the new ending to the story!

…An hour later Anansi woke up. His head was spinning. Little Bush Deer was nowhere in sight. And when he got home, he found his house as empty as it was before. But if you think Anansi learned his lesson, you’re mistaken. Being the determined, imaginative spider that he was he set out to find the moss-covered rock and continue to trick the animals of the forest. When he found the rock, he examined it closely. Much to his surprise he discovered a crack in the side of the rock. He looked around and found a stick. Then he carefully pried open the moss-covered rock! Inside the rock was a very intricate computer. “Aha!” said Anansi. “I’ll reprogram this rock and the animals won’t know which words will knock them out!” He slowly but surely typed in the words… I don’t see anything. Anansi carefully put the rock back together and set off to find his first victim! He continued to trick all the animals in the forest. And just when they think they know what not to say “KPOM!” Down they fall!
