Our class read When This Box Is Full by Patricia Lillie. In this book a child fills an empty box with items to represent each month of the year. We used this book to help us learn the months in order. We each decorated a "treasure box" for our favorite month and filled it with items to represent this special month. Many students chose their birthday month.

Then, we made a group book using the model of When This Box Is Full. In our book we filled a soup pot. Since you would make soup in a day instead of a year, we used times of the day in our story instead of months. Here is our story:

This pot in empty but not for long. We will fill it with ...

water at 6:00

carrots at 7:00

chicken at 8:00

broccoli at 9:00

noodles at 10:00

potatoes at 11:00

tomatoes at 12:00

mushrooms at 1:00

cheese at 2:00

pickles at 3:00
lettuce at 4:00

pepper at 5:00

turkey at 6:00

hot pepper sauce at 7:00

onions at 8:00

spaghetti at 9:00

Eat it at 10:00.
It tastes good!
