Ms.
Burrell's First Grade Class |
| To welcome spring, we decided that it would be fun to learn about honey bees. We invited a local beekeeper to come in and share his expert knowledge. Mr. Braden taught us that honey bees are important because they help plants make food for us. He also showed us a honeycomb and some of the equipment he uses when he takes care of bees. We tasted honey that his own bees made. Yummmmm! We all wrote "Important Poems" about bees in the style of one of our favorite authors, Margaret Wise Brown. | |

The important
thing about honeybees is that they can live anywhere. They make honey for the winter. They sting to protect themselves. They help make fruits. Worker bees feed the larvae. But the important thing about honeybees is that they can live anywhere. by M.V. |

about honeybees is that they get pollen. |

The important
thing about honeybees is that they sting. They kill wasps that get in their hive. A wasp is an enemy to honeybees. They have pollen baskets to collect pollen. But the important thing about honeybees is that they sting. by T.J. |

| The important
thing about a honeybee is that it has a hollow tongue. It stings but then it dies. It makes honey. It kills wasps that get in its hive. But the important thing about a honeybee is that it has a hollow tongue. by Z.H. |

| We also read many other books about spring. We wrote spring acrostic poetry and made illustrations in the style of one of our favorite illustrators, Barbara Reid. (Can you find a bee in each of them?) We loved learning about spring! | |
