Spring Into Life
with Pussy Willows

Several years ago, one of Mrs. Weber's students brought her some cuttings from her Grandmother's pussy willow bush. Mrs. Weber put them in water, they grew roots and Mrs. Weber planted them in her yard. Now she has  her own pussy willow bush.
When the pussy willows started to come out on her bush this spring, Mrs. Weber brought them to school. We observed them using our "Private Eyes," wrote poetry about them and made our own pussy willows out of cotton swabs. Then we put these cuttings in water. They have roots now and we can each plant a pussy willow bush of our own!

Here are some of the poems we wrote:

Jacob wrote:
Pussy willow

Hairy, fuzzy, softy

Looks like a hairy hat

Feels like a bunny

Five pussy willows.

Alex wrote:
Pussy willow

Excellent, perfect, fuzzy

Looks like two caterpillars on a stick

Feels like cotton

My excellent pussy willow

Fuzzy, bumpy, green

Looks like a cat's tail

Feels like fuzz

My pussy willow
